I'm Cautiously Getting To Where I Want To Be

WMM Half Marathon

October 22nd-Wednesday: The run of doom. 4mi.-(29:58-3rd mile downhill-6:10) at 5:48pm. I believe I hurt myself during that 3rd mile. I was over-striding while going back and forth from the curb to the grass because of cars. It was raining and slippery, also dark out, wore a headlight. I was dumb and I paid for it by straining something in my upper hamstring/gluteus area. It could have been because I had just woken up from a nap, and I jumped right into the run with cold muscles, wore minimal clothing.

LIFE
If someone were to ask me "why do you run", I'd probably just give them a simple answer like, "I love it", but there is more behind that answer, it goes so much more deeper than just loving it. I love the training itself for the release it gives me, for the distraction from work and life that it provides. It has gotten me through depression and aggression. I've been down the hole and back. I love racing because I love the competition! I love the sense of peace I get when I'm out on a run. In all reality, I grasp the vibrancy of just being alive because I'm all too aware of my own mortality. I'm sure that you are too. I know I'm going to get old one day and not be able to run, not have that release or drive to stay in shape; improve. We are all ultimately headed in the same direction. I know it. You know it. Why do so many of us move through life so fast, always looking towards the future while rarely enjoying the present? I don't have an answer for that one. I do know that I have a dream, and I'm really striving to achieve it. I don't want to be just normal. I don't want to be a celebrity. I just want to know, when I'm old and tired, that I tried my hardest; did everything that I could to achieve my dream because I believe it is possible.

I got some quality rest in this week, and I'm now ready to work my way into a solid exercise routine over these next 3-6 weeks. I plan on putting some cycling into the program as well. I had to stop to walk and stretch, it was so bad. I chalk it up to dehydration and going out a bit too fast in the first 13-15mi. because of the crowd and competition pulling me along so well. The crowd was AMAZING!!! especially from 10-13mi. where I clicked off a couple low 7min. miles and a couple sub-7's. I've NEVER felt so nervous before a race and so excited, supported, and just totally pumped up during a race! EVER! I was really riding the wave of excitement! I'd definitely do it again, but with better preparation.
