Rest Week For Ankle
August 2nd-Sunday: Rest Day-Ankle was quite swollen

Kingman Farm Trail Race + Ankle Injury :/

I also changed into my Asics Hyperspeed 6's and then did some stretching + drills + a couple strides after the warm up; back to the Hoka's for the cool down.

I twisted my ankle real bad half a mile into the race, but decided to keep going so I ran about 3 more miles where things just got progressively worse. The pain in the last mile was really getting to me. I should have just thrown in the towel after the first mile because three days later things are still healing. I did end up hanging onto 3rd OA, but I believe that I could have given 1st place-Josh Fields a run for his money if I didn't hurt myself. I HATE not being able to run or cross train. We'll see how it is feeling tomorrow-Wednesday.

Hurricane Hill 10k! :)
July 19th-Sunday; 12 miles-(33:52) of biking on the indoor spinning bike in the PM. It was very hot and humid working out during the power outage.
July 20th-Monday: 7 miles-(55:18) in the AM
July 21st-Tuesday: 12 miles-(1:35:25) with a few short breaks because I drank a lot of water beforehand in the AM
July 22nd-Wednesday: 7 miles-(51:24) mostly with Seth in the AM. Felt pretty good starting out, dropping a 6:47 1st mile and then a 6:15; slowed down to 7:30's after that.
July 23rd-Thursday: 4 miles-(31:16) in the AM + another 4 miles-(31:49) on the same route in the PM
July 24th-Friday: 5 miles-(39:36 + 6 BF ST on the grass + drills) with Seth in the AM
July 25th-Saturday: Hurricane Hill 10k-Vermont-9 miles-(1.5 wu-11:36 + 6 mi. race-43:51 + 1.5 cd-13:00)-combined total-(68:26) in the AM
Race Report:
The race director gave out some quick, pre-race directions at the starting line, and then we were off with a simple "GO!" I got a pretty good start, and was side by side with my younger, but speedy brother leading the charge down a choppy, logging road; where about 400 meters from the start, the course took a sharp left across some rocks and up a trail. This is where I wasn't paying attention to any arrows and kept going straight up the logging road. I was shouted to by other racers including my brother that we were supposed to go left. With frustration I doubled back as quickly as I could to settle into 6th or so as we began to climb. It was very quickly apparent that this wouldn't be like last week's trail race where it was just Seth and I from 2 miles on. We all climbed about 300 ft.-(according to Strava) during that 1st mile with the last part being pretty steep. My legs felt zapped after we crested the hill, and started down a single track section. Seth took off on the downhill, and then it leveled out. I caught back up at this point while shaking out the lactic acid build-up, and went by him. I hoped that I could stay in front of him from there to the finish line which I was happily able to pull off. The rest of the race after that which was from 1.75 miles on was just reeling in the guys that really attacked that first climb. I caught one fairly fast within the next 1/2 a mile and proceeded by him-(Luc Morin). I caught glimpses of the next 2 guys up ahead and focused on catching them. I passed one of them-(Jordan Frazin) right before the 3 mile mark that was lagging behind at that point-(I could tell he was hurting.) I stayed with the guy in 2nd place-Vincent Lyon who I beat by almost a minute at last weekend's race so I was pretty confident that I could edge him out again. I stayed right with him up until 3.5 miles or so and then just cruised past. It turns out that he was just biding his time, and knew the course pretty well from winning this race when they held it last September. I threw in a surge and he went right with me. Almost went the wrong way again just after 4 miles into it, but thankfully he shouted to me to take another sharp left so I doubled back to be the follower again. The last 1.4 miles consists of mostly downhills with some rough turns thrown in. He took off on this section of the course. I was able to go with him up until the last half a mile where I twisted an ankle and just couldn't keep up with his fast pace. He did take a pretty good tumble where it just looked like he rolled, jumped back up, and then continued racing! It was quite the sight! I never saw the 1st place guy again after that first steep climb in the beginning. He beat Vincent by 1:30. The guy-(Chris Gish) ended up being a 17 year old from VT, and his sister won the 10k for females as well. In conclusion, I just didn't feel as happy with the race overall as I did last weekend. I should have really gone for it from 3-4 miles to try and lose Vincent before the long, downhill finish. I'll get him next time! :D

July 18th-Saturday: Frenzy in the Forest trail race with the fam-9 miles-(1.6 wu-14:28 + 4.35 mi. race-30:26 + 3.05 cd-24:21)-combined total-(69:15) in the AM. I ended up with 2nd OA + 1st in my age group of 20-29. Tough course + gnarly trails + no wipe outs = a definite good time! I stuck with my younger bro Seth right up until the last half a mile or so where he lost me on a good downhill section. We got rid of any pursuers within the first couple miles. I'm pretty happy with it overall, and I'm already looking forward to next weekend's 10k trail race over in Vermont! :D

It was pretty frustrating to be directed down the wrong path right after the halfway point. I didn't really realize it was the wrong way for another .75 mi. of running, and just decided to keep going. I ended up merging onto the 10k course towards the end, ran 1.4 mi. extra. It just sucks to think that I could have won by like 10 minutes if I had gone the right way. Ohh well...until the next race where I'll make sure to wreck it! I did get a couple consolation prizes for the misdirection, but it still irritates me! haha

People's United Bank Vermont City Marathon!
May 24th-Sunday: Marathon Day! :D 26.2 miles-(3:30:41 official finishing time)-8:02/mile average-427th place overall-3 min & 32 sec PR over last year-29th out of 122 in my age group of males 16-24 years old. I jogged over to the start line before the race started; it was probably around .3 miles-(2:30). I also took around 6 min total in bathroom breaks during the race where I stopped my watch so the total time on my Garmin was right under 3:25 when I finished.

New Bedford Half Marathon Completed! :)
March 15th-Sunday: New Bedford Half Marathon-(.9 E-(8:44) + 2 ST + 13.1 Race-(1:28:36-6:46/mile-334th place)-14 miles-(1:37:20) combined total. I ran in my Sayonara's. I bonked with 5k to go. I had a VFuel Gel around 8 mi. + another one around 12 mi.; tried getting some water down at the water stops. It just really wasn't working out very well for me today.

Cruising Right Along :)
March 8th-Sunday: I went to the Spring Ahead 3 Miler in the AM, not entirely sure if I was going to race or not. I jogged around for a couple min and my hamstring felt fine, but still a little tight. I signed up and got my number, 5-6 min into the warm up, the same pain and tightness came back in my upper right hamstring area as yesterday. Really bummed out after this, but I still got to watch my brothers battle it out! Seth got 3rd-(16:48-5:36/mile)-(beating my PR on this course from 2013-16:56-5:39/mile) and Kurt got 7th-(17:18-5:46/mile) with this being his first race back since his pneumothorax this past fall.
1.1 miles-(9:20) + a few ST that were only greeted with pain.

March 10th-Tuesday: 5.15 miles-(40:28) in the PM + a core workout-(4 sets of 50 sec x front, r side, l side + 30 sec holding leg raise while laying on back + 60 sec same thing + 35 sit ups). I also did 2 sets of 12 calf raises/eccentric heel drops.
March 11th-Wednesday: Q1-(9 E + 2 ST + 2 x (2 T-(12:34 and 13:32) w/2 min jg rest) + .75 E)-14 miles-(1:44:58) in the early PM. I went out too hard on the 1st set with a 6:05 1st mile. It cost me on the 2nd set; I was also really fighting the wind coming off the lake. I cut the cool down by a mile because of my stomach and lack of any energy in my legs. I had a VFuel Gel at 8.25 mi. into the run.

March 11th-Wednesday: Q1-(9 E + 2 ST + 2 x (2 T-(12:34 and 13:32) w/2 min jg rest) + .75 E)-14 miles-(1:44:58) in the early PM. I went out too hard on the 1st set with a 6:05 1st mile. It cost me on the 2nd set; I was also really fighting the wind coming off the lake. I cut the cool down by a mile because of my stomach and lack of any energy in my legs. I had a VFuel Gel at 8.25 mi. into the run.

11 Weeks Out From The Marathon! :D
March 1st-Sunday: Off from running; 8 mi.-(20:25) spinning sesh + a core workout-(2 sets of 60 sec planks x front, r side, l side + another 90 sec x front + 43 sit ups-(crossed arms on chest; feet under couch) in 60 sec)
March 2nd-Monday: Q1-(2 E + 6 M-(6:49/mile-8.8 mph) + 1 E + 6 M + 1 E)-16 miles-(1:56:08-452 ft of elevation gain) on the treadmill in the PM. I did a couple strides during the 2 E before starting the 6 M. I drank water with a Nuun tablet thrown in throughout the run-24 oz, and I had a VFuel Gel during the 1 E in between M-sessions. I kept the incline at .5 % for most of the run, and my HR was 160-172 bpm for the M sessions. Non-stop workout; I'm very happy with how all of this went :)

Getting Strong
February 22nd-Sunday: Q1-(steady E run of 100-120 min)-16 miles-(1:59:38) in the PM :D I ran the first 10 mi. w/Seth; definitely helped to keep me going. I brought along a package of GU Chomps, ate 4 of them around 7.5 mi. into it and then another 4 around 12.7 mi. No water on this one, the weather was decent and I felt really good! I'm definitely getting stronger with the longer runs :)
February 23rd-Monday: Off from running; threw on the biking shorts and got in a 8 mi.-(20 min.) spinning sesh + a core workout-(3 sets of 60 sec planks x front, r side, l side + another 60 sec front, 60-70 sec rest in between reps; 10 min total of planks) in the PM
February 24th-Tuesday: 7 miles-(55:04) + 6 ST-(10-11mph) towards the end of the run on the treadmill at PF in the PM
February 25th-Wednesday: 7 miles-(53:22) in the PM

3 Weeks Out From Half Marathon!
February 15th-Sunday: Q1-(2.75 E + 2 x (2 T w/2 min jg recovery) + 6 E + 1 T + 1 E)-15 miles-(1:52:34) on the treadmill at PF in the PM. I had 4 GU Chomps after 9 mi.-(had 4 before starting as well) and some water while still running. I put the incline at .5% until 2 mi. where I put it up to 1%, and there it stayed. I went through 20 oz of water on the run. I was sweating so much. It's too hot in PF. I like controlling the temps at home when I run inside, keeping it at 50-60 degrees.
67 miles for the past 7 days! New 7-Day Total PR :D
February 16th-Monday: Off from running; an easy 30 min biking session + a core workout-(3 sets of 60 sec planks x front, r side, l side + another 60 sec x front)-10 min total of planks at PF in the PM

1st Race In Nearly 3 Months!
February 1st-Sunday: Q2-race instead of the planned Threshold workout for the week-4th Down And 4 Miler-(1.6 E + 4 Miler Race-(25:17-6:19/mile) + 2.4 E)-8mi. total
I took off fast from the start, 5:46 1st mile. I then took a wrong turn around 1.5mi. into it..cost me about 20 seconds, caught back up and led until the finish. It was mentally hard to recover after going the wrong way. Low key race, but it's still the only road race I've ever won! :)
